This blog is about meditation over code—Coditation.
It’s a commentary over interesting code (a functional gem or object-oriented pattern) or a distributed system or a big data technology that’s worth talking about.
I’m Sumant—Father, Engineer, Researcher, Software Developer, Blogger, Author, Gamer, Gym Nut. I take a lot of interest in C++, functional programming, distributed systems, and stream processing.
Currently, I’m a Sr. Software Engineer at LinkedIn. I help run Kafka and the related streaming infrastructure at LinkedIn. I’ve received the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award in Software Development Technologies from 2014-2020.
Previously, I worked on Data Distribution Service (DDS) and Reactive Stream Processing for Industrial IoT systems in Real-Time Innovations, Inc. (RTI). Before that I completed PhD in CS from Vanderbilt University. Checkout my past research work.
I contribute code in open-source Apache Kafka. Some other open-source projects I built/contributed in the past include Rx4DDS, RefleX, Lua Generators, and LEESA. I write a more focused blog on programming called C++ Truths. I wrote More C++ Idioms—a wikibook on 92 curated techniques for C++ programmers. My talks (mostly on C++) are available on Vimeo. I’ve received successive Microsoft MVP awards for these contributions.
